Free Lexington Population Center Training – August 25-28

Monday

Overview of the Kentucky OSH Program 8:30 – 11:30 a.m.
This course discusses the obligation to provide a safe and healthy workplace, free from recognized hazards. Topics of discussion include the operations of the Kentucky Occupational Safety and Health Program, including enforcement and voluntary compliance services, and safety and health topics currently being considered for future standards and policies.

Respiratory Protection 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.
This course covers the basic requirements of Respiratory Protection as covered under 29 CFR 1910.134. This course will discuss the various types of respiratory equipment available; the limitations and capabilities of the various types of equipment; and the elements of an acceptable respiratory protection program.

Tuesday

Hazard Communication – GHS 8:30 – 11:30 a.m.
This course covers the basic requirements of 29 CFR 1910.1200 and the revised provision of the standard as they relate to the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS). Attendees will learn about the revised standard, which will include chemical hazard classification, written program requirements, container labeling and other forms of warning, safety data sheets, and associated phase-in dates for the new requirements under GHS.

Bloodborne Pathogens 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.
This course explains the measures that must be implemented to protect employees from the hazards of occupational exposure to blood and other potentially infectious materials containing bloodborne pathogens, such as hepatitis B virus, and human immunodeficiency virus. Topics of discussion include applicable definitions, infection control, engineering and work practice controls, including universal precautions, personal protective equipment, housekeeping; medical evaluations, warning signs and labels, and training of employees.

Wednesday

Powered Industrial Trucks 8:30 – 11:30 a.m.
This course covers the basic requirements of 1910.178. Attendees will learn about the basic aspects of powered industrial trucks (primarily fork lifts), operator training requirements, safe truck operations (including traveling & safety belts), equipment modifications, and associated hazards. This course will not provide operator certification under 1910.178(L).

Crane Standard for Construction 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.
This course addresses major changes which took effect on Nov. 8, 2010. The class provides a basic overview of 1926, Subpart CC, including mobile cranes, tower cranes and certifications requirements for crane operators. Topics also include requirements for riggers, electrical hazards, and crane inspections.

Thursday

Injury and Illness Recordkeeping 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
This course is for those persons responsible for maintaining the revised injury and illness records. The forms 300, 301, 300A will be covered. The regulations and guidelines for recordkeeping will be discussed, as well as the compliance directive the Kentucky OSH compliance officer will use to evaluate your records. A recordkeeping example workshop will be part of the course, time permitting. (CEUs available for this class from OSHA OTI)

Fire Protection 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.
This course covers 1910, Subpart E: Exit Routes, Emergency Action Plans, and Fire Prevention Plans and Subpart F: Fire Protection. Participants will learn how to develop and implement effective Emergency Action and Fire Prevention Plans, as well as maintain exit routes. Additionally, classification of fires, fire extinguishment methods, fire detection systems, and employee alarm systems will be addressed.

Cost: $85.00 per participant

Course Description: The Emergency Care and Safety Institute (ECSI) First Aid, CPR, AED, and Bloodborne Pathogen course is designed for all job-site workers and supervisors. During the course, an instructor conducts video-based lessons and works with students individually to complete their first aid, CPR, and AED skills practice and testing. The ECSI Course Completion Card is valid for two years. Bloodborne Pathogen training must be completed annually.

87th Annual Gala Recap and Picture Gallery

Builders Exchange of Kentucky celebrated its 87th birthday in style at The Olmsted on March 27th! The annual gala was shared by more than two-hundred guests and was filled with many memorable moments. The evening’s festivities began with a hospitality hour and included a silent auction of more than forty generously donated items. Nearly five thousand dollars was raised to benefit the Builders Exchange Scholarship Program.

The evening’s program included a unique perspective of Louisville’s neighborhoods offered by Councilman Tom Owen, a heartfelt tribute to John Kelly, congratulatory awards presented to two Builders Exchange retiring board members (Paul Clements and Mike Harpring), firms celebrating milestone anniversaries with Builders Exchange, and the presentation scholarships to sixteen worthy recipients.

The event was unforgettable thanks to so many people. The sponsors, the silent auction donors, the presenters, The Olmsted, and the Builders Exchange staff all worked together to celebrate the evening in style! A special thanks goes to the Builders Exchange members. This celebration is for you!

Louisville Population Center Training – February 24 – 27

Kentucky-labor-cabinetThe Kentucky Labor Cabinet ‘s Office of Occupational Safety and Health, Division of Education and Training is offering FREE OSHA training the week of February 24 – 27, 2014. The training, which is open to all Kentucky employers and employees, will be presented at Builders Exchange of Kentucky, 2300 Meadow Drive, Louisville.

Classes to be presented include: Overview of the Kentucky OSH Program, Crane Safety for Construction, Excavation and Trenching Safety, Injury and Illness Recordkeeping, Basic Electrical Safety, Fall Protection, Hazard Communication/GHS and Confines Space.
